Thrice-Told Tale #11

King Tronin had been ill for some time. The last few days he was completely bed ridden. So, he called for his best soothsayer to find out what was wrong. The soothsayer burnt the sacred incense, made many an arcane gesture and incantation, then began meditating. After several minutes of this he had divined an answer.

"Lord, I have an answer, but I am loath to reveal what I have learned," moaned the soothsayer.

"Out with it, man!" cried the King, "I must know."

"Lord, my vision has shown me that you have not long to live. In fact, the number is but ten."

"Ten? Ten what? Years? Months? What!" croaked Tronin.

The soothsayer's only response was, ". . . nine."
